I recently upgraded my pc from Windows 7 to 10 and subsequently tried unsuccessfully to run the version of Google Earth that was on the pc. When I try to start the application it just seems to ‘hang’ with the Google Earth logo on the screen. I suggest you to b oot the computer in safe mode with networking, and check if the issue still persist.

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you’re using.

Follow the steps outlined in the below Microsoft Help link. Refer: Start your PC in safe mode in Windows Once this is done, reboot the computer in normal mode and check. A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program. I’m not sure how this has happened but when I re-started my pc today and tried to open Google Earth it started up fine and seems to be running ok. So, although I have not followed your suggestions, I will keep them in mind as I am soon going to be upgrading my step-father’s pc from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 and I know he has Google Earth.

In the mean time, I suggest you to create a System Restore point , so that you will always have a functional state of the computer to revert to. However, if you already have one in the recent time, to check if there is any Restore Point already created, follow the below steps. In the left pane, click on System Protection. It will show all restore points already created. It looks like Google isn’t going to continue providing Google Earth for newer Windows versions. You are getting scammed if you go anywhere else for Google Earth.
