• With PLZ’s newly acquired and skilled farmer base, and with the overall volumes of tobacco purchased, the company positioned itself as a strong competitor in the Zimbabwe tobacco industry sector
• An opportunity arose to develop a marketing relationship in Uganda in East Africa to take advantage of the demand for the varying styles of tobacco grown in the country.
• To complement the marketing relationship and the fact there was no processing capacity in Uganda, this created another opportunity for the group with the establishment of Nilus Group Limited, a leaf processing company. The processing equipment from the shuttered Thai factory was fully refurbished, and along with the addition of new equipment, was installed in a new Premium Tobacco built factory on land the company acquired in Jinja, on the northern shore of Lake Victoria, west of Kampala.
